The campus community is invited to nominate individuals to be recognized for their excellence in undergraduate teaching. Please see the award descriptions, eligibility requirements, and link to submit your nominations below.
Nominators are asked to submit the name of the person being nominated as well as a reason for the nomination. Faculty, staff, and students are all welcome to submit nominations. Self-nominations are also welcomed. Once nominations are closed, all nominees will be invited to apply for the award. Nominations for the Dean’s Honorees will be solicited directly from the schools. Awardees will be recognized at the 2024 Celebration of Teaching reception which will take place as the culmination of UCI Teach Day on September 19, 2024. Access the nomination form below.
Nominations are due by midnight, Monday, April 1st, 2024.
Please note: Previous award winners will not be eligible to win the same award more than once in a 5-year period.
Award Descriptions
Dr. De Gallow Professor of the Year
Open to all Senate faculty members
Recognizes a faculty member who excels in teaching through the use of particular methods that positively impact diverse student populations.
Lecturer of the Year
Open to all full or part-time Unit-18 lecturers
Recognizes a lecturer who excels in teaching through the use of particular methods that positively impact diverse student populations.
Excellence in Digital Learning Award
Open to faculty of all ranks
Recognizes an instructor who utilizes innovative and effective uses of instructional technology and/or online teaching practices.
Excellence in Pedagogical Development Award
Open to faculty of all ranks
Recognizes an instructor who has spent considerable time and effort engaging in various pedagogical development opportunities. This could include engaging in their own pedagogical development, mentoring graduate students in pedagogy, or facilitating pedagogical development opportunities to colleagues or departments.
The Learning Experience Design and Online Teaching Award
Open to faculty of all ranks
Recognizes an instructor who has devoted tremendous effort to designing an online learning space with digital active learning activities to enhance the student learning experience. This could include faculty who are creatively using the Learning Management System (Canvas) and various external learning tools to deliver an interactive hybrid, flipped, or online course.
Most Promising Future Faculty Award
Open to all graduate students
Recognizes graduate students who show great promise through their excellence in teaching (as an instructor/TA), research, and service to the department, university, profession, or broader community. Nominees must have advanced to candidacy.
