by | Jan 8, 2019 | DTEI Newsletter

On January 19-20, 2019, the UCI Student Center will be full of faculty, postdocs, and graduate students who are interested in maximizing student success in some of the hardest courses on any college campus.

SABER West is an education research conference focused on improving undergraduate learning in STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math). This regional conference is an offshoot of SABER (The Society for the Advancement of Biology Education Research), and is geared towards bringing together education researchers and instructors as well as 2-year and 4-year college affiliates.

The Teaching and Learning Research Center (TLRC) Director Adrienne Williams is a co-organizer of the event. The TLRC’s computational statistician, Kameryn Denaro, will hold a one-day workshop on using the statistical program R to conduct education research.

Brian Sato, Interim Associate Dean for DTEI, is the primary organizer of the conference. He states, “SABER West is a great opportunity for people who are interested in measuring the effectiveness of their teaching to learn more about the process. This is a group of education researchers and discipline experts in biology, chemistry physics, and engineering who are motivated to improve the equity and diversity of successful students in STEM.”

More information can be found at the meeting website https://sites.google.com/a/uci.edu/saberwest2019/home). UCI faculty can attend this conference for one day on Sunday, January 20, 2019 for the “Sunday Pass” rate of $25. Registration is here: https://goo.gl/forms/iLquavyMRqx5f7w62.
