All faculty new to teaching at UCI are invited to participate in the New Faculty Teaching Academy (NFTA).  The 2019 Academy will be held September 10th and 11th, 9 am – 4:00 pm in AIRB 1030. Registration is now open, click here to sign up.

The Academy is designed specifically for new professors with limited teaching experience; however, new faculty with more experience who are still interested are more than welcome to participate.

Co-sponsored by the Office of Academic Personnel and facilitated by the Division of Teaching Excellence and Innovation, the Academy is also designed to be practical and hands-on. Faculty have the option of designing a complete syllabus.

Participants receive a Certificate of Participation that can be added to their tenure and promotion files.

Designed as a series of integrated modules, participants can sign-up for the number of modules that they feel will best suit their needs.

What teaching methods have been proven to be effective? How might you motivate your students and get them more engaged in your course material? This module will demonstrate quick and easy strategies designed to make your class more active while increasing student learning.

Wednesday September 11th

MODULE 7: 9:00 – 2:00 DESIGNING YOUR COURSE
Creating a course requires more than just determining what content you will cover. This module will help you identify your student learning outcomes, create assignments and exams that align with these outcomes, and construct a syllabus. You will be given time to work on your course, so please bring any materials you may need. LUNCH PROVIDED 12:00 – 12:45
