DTEI Welcomes Ashley Harlow

"welcome to the Team Ashley Harlow, DTEI Program Director of Professional Development"

The Division of Teaching Excellence & Innovation (DTEI) welcomes Dr. Ashley Harlow as the new Program Director of Professional Development. In this role, she oversees the DTEI professional development curriculum designed for faculty, graduate students, and all members of instructional teams to enhance overall instruction on campus. Ashley leads a team of professional staff across various specialties of instructional design and educational development and collaborates with DTEI leadership to ensure strategic alignment.

Danny Mann, Executive Director of DTEI, comments:

“Ashley has the skills and expertise to elevate DTEI’s professional development efforts to a new level of cohesion across the Division. She has the perfect balance of institutional knowledge and an outside perspective for DTEI to greatly benefit from her addition.”

Ashley Harlow earned her Ph.D. in Educational Policy and Social Context from UC Irvine, where she was a recipient of the Eugene Cota-Robles Fellowship, UCI’s Provost Ph.D. Fellowship, and the Higher Ed Teaching and Learning Research Fellowship. Her research focuses on examining higher education teaching practices and policies that support underserved students’ learning in college, particularly Hispanic students’ perspectives of student-centered instruction. After receiving her B.A. in Sociology and Psychology from USC, where she participated in both the McNair program and was a Mellon Mays Undergraduate Fellow, Ashley taught 11th and 12th grade U.S. History for three years in Northeast Los Angeles while completing her Master’s in Education at Loyola Marymount University. Following her doctoral studies, she served as Assistant Director for Instructional Development at the University of Georgia’s Center for Teaching and Learning. Ashley returned to California to work at UC Riverside’s GradSuccess program, where she supported graduate students through the University Teaching Certificate program and various workshops, drawing on her own experiences as a first-generation student to help others navigate academic challenges and build confidence in their scholarly pursuits.

When asked about joining the DTEI team, Ashley says:

“I am thrilled about my transition into this new role and the exciting opportunities it presents. I look forward to contributing to our team’s continued success while bringing fresh perspectives and innovative approaches to our shared goals.”

Join us in welcoming Ashley to the team!
