Sharing High-impact Ideas for Faculty Transformation (SHIFT)
Registration for the Fall 2025 SHIFT cohort is now closed.
SHIFT (Sharing High-impact Ideas for Faculty Transformation) is a new faculty learning community designed to support faculty in advancing their pedagogical repertoire, allowing for a deep dive into relevant and emerging pedagogical and faculty-related interests. SHIFT is designed to serve faculty who have already completed the Active Learning Institute (ALI), ensuring some common vocabulary and understanding, while creating a space to discuss additional pedagogical approaches, and offering pedagogical resources and strategies beyond active learning.
During Fall quarter, faculty who have completed ALI can indicate interest into this learning community. Space is limited and faculty will be informed of enrollment or waitlist status. These faculty will meet during lunch time (lunch will be provided by DTEI) to discuss predetermined topics. While there are set conversation topics, SHIFT is not designed to be a seminar or training; rather, it is intended to be a space for pedagogical conversation, where faculty can feel free to shift topics of conversation to best meet their needs and concerns as educators. By the end of the quarter, participants will be empowered to: compare and relate pedagogy-related challenges across disciplines, manage unique and emerging teaching challenges, interact with and establish an interdisciplinary community with each other and DTEI, share resources;, and reflect on pedagogical strategies and wins.
This program will take faculty on a pedagogical deep dive. By participating in this learning community, faculty participants will be able to …
- … Develop new pedagogical strategies to implement in their classrooms.
- … Innovate teaching strategies and discuss SHIFT topics.
- … Validate and compare common teaching struggles in a supportive and inclusive community.
- … Engage with other faculty from across campus who are also interested in pedagogical development and improving student learning.
Schedule and Topics: For Fall 2025, SHIFT will meet at AIRB 3193 from 11:30am-12:50pm three times at the beginning of each month:
- October 7th, 2025 – Digital Accessibility
- November 4th, 2025 – AI and Formative Feedback and Activities
- December 2nd, 2025 – Neurodivergence in the Classroom
