Instructional Technology Internship Opportunity Working with Faculty to Improve Course Websites

Would you like to get a head start in learning about educational technology? The Division of Teaching Excellence and Innovation (DTEI) at UCI is partnering with the School of Education to offer a 4-credit independent study course on implementing Canvas, the learning management system (LMS) that many faculty are already using in their courses.

Many K-12 school districts are also beginning to use an LMS to allow teachers to offer tailored instruction that can be accessed by students anytime, anywhere, without geographic constraints. This is a great opportunity for School of Education students to not only learn the technology but how the online environment can support individualized approaches to instruction like inquiry-based learning and portfolio assessment.

“We are thrilled to have the opportunity to partner with Dr. Brouillette of the School of Education in piloting this internship program in Fall 2017,” says Megan Linos, Director of Learning Experience Design and Online Education with DTEI. “This is absolutely a win-win situation. Not only will students gain concrete experience in learning management systems, but with the assistance of the interns, DTEI will be better able to better support UCI faculty as they switch to Canvas.”

Students will participate in a 5-week training program, followed by a 4-week field experience assisting faculty new to Canvas, under the supervision of DTEI staff. There are only 10 seats available for this new program.

Classes will be held in the Anteater Instruction & Research Building (AIRB) on Fridays from 2 to 5 pm for 5 weeks, starting October 13. The focus will be on using Canvas to enhance digital learning and teaching with technologies. Paid positions may be available for students who prove to be knowledgeable and effective Canvas consultants.
