Teach Week is a campus-wide celebration of teaching and learning, featuring events and discussions with UCI faculty and teaching experts. All events are open to the entire UCI community. Please join the Division of Teaching Excellence and Innovation in this celebration!

Monday (April 23rd)

Lunch Event: Faculty Innovation Showcase

12:00pm – 1:00pm – Humanities Gateway 1002

Megan Linos, Director, Learning Experience Design & Online Education, will lead a panel of UCI faculty who will showcase their online courses while sharing their course development experience working with DTEI. Panelists will share their online teaching tips, tricks, lessons learned, and best practices with the audience. Join us for lunch while expanding your ideas about the possibilities for digital learning and online education!

Tuesday (April 24th):

DTEI Open House

Come by and visit the newly renovated Division of Teaching Excellence and Innovation offices to see the wide array of teaching resources available to you. Coffee and pastries will be served.

Lunch Event: AAU ALL-STEM Faculty Fellows Roundtable

12:30pm – 1:30pm – Natural Sciences II 1201

Six UCI faculty members participated in the AAU ALL-STEM Faculty Fellows program, and incorporated new active learning techniques into their Fall 2017 or Winter 2018 STEM lectures.

Each Fellow will give a short talk on how they incorporated in-class Canvas assignments or group activities as they discuss their successes and challenges. The UCI community is invited to listen and ask questions during this lunch.

 

10 Things Faculty Need to Know About EEE Canvas Transition

2:00pm – 4:00pm – Humanities Gateway 1002

Partnering with the Office of Information Technology (OIT), Megan Linos, Director of Learning Experience Design & Online Education, will present the top 10 things UCI faculty should know about Canvas before transitioning their EEE course sites. A Q&A session will follow to address attendee questions. Please come enjoy some delicious desserts while learning more about teaching with the EEE Canvas system.

Wednesday (April 25th)

Lunch Event: Making Group Work Work

12:30pm – 1:30pm Social Ecology 101

Group activities and projects can be very effective ways to learn. So, why do students often report the opposite? DTEI experts will discuss these challenges and demonstrate strategies for increasing student motivation and learning in group settings.

Celebration of Teaching

Join us as faculty are recognized for excellence in undergraduate teaching at the 25th Annual Celebration of Teaching. This event is sponsored by the Academic Senate Council on Teaching, Learning, & Student Experience (CTLSE) and the Vice Provost for Teaching & Learning, and is hosted by the Division of Teaching Excellence and Innovation.

 

Friday (April 27th)

Lunch Event: Dynamic Lecturing (Reading/ Discussion Group)

12:00pm – 1:00pm – Natural Sciences II 1201

Andrea Aebersold, Program Director, Faculty Instructional Development, will lead a discussion session with faculty on readings from “Dynamic Lecturing.”  This session will focus on different ways to make lectures more engaging and effective.

 

Tour of new Anteater Learning Pavilion

3:00pm – 4:00pm – Anteater Learning Pavilion

Be one of the first to take a tour (complete with hard hat!) of the currently under construction Anteater Learning Pavilion. Note that participants will be required to wear long pants and hard sole shoes, and should expect to walk/stand for roughly one hour.

Grad Student/ Post Doc Pedagogical Pub Party

Come join Danny Mann (Program Director for Graduate Student and Postdoctoral Scholar Instructional Development) and your fellow graduate students and post docs interested in chatting about teaching challenges and opportunities.
