To instill an institutional culture that fosters diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging, the Division of Teaching Excellence and Innovation (DTEI) seeks to: (1) create an inclusive, welcoming pedagogical community for graduate students and postdoctoral scholars to learn from their peers and support each other in their professional development goals, and (2) equip graduate students and postdoctoral scholars with tools to create inclusive learning environments for their current and future students, by engaging in transformative, evidence-based pedagogical practices.
The DTEI serves graduate student and postdoctoral scholar instructional development in three overlapping domains:
- Evidence-based and inclusive pedagogy training to enhance teaching and learning experiences.
- Professional development opportunities and support to promote successful careers in higher education.
- Supportive and inclusive interdisciplinary communities focused on teaching and learning.
Through these domains, DTEI encourages interdisciplinary, peer-learning and student-centered approaches to pedagogy. We encourage graduate students and postdoctoral scholars to engage in a reflective practice of teaching (i.e., continually receive feedback, reflect on feedback, and refine teaching practices), as excellent teaching develops over time and with intentionality.
